Dynamips, Is it sufficient?

Unanswered Question
Dec 22nd, 2008

Hi There,

Can someone suggest if Dynamips alone can be used to practice all R/S lab LAN switching topics or it needs to be integrated with external 3550s/3560s?

Thanks for your time!

I have this problem too.

Dynamips is good enough, unless you really want to messed around with cables (and have the $$$ to purchase a router/switch and isdn/frame-relay switch box).

Do take note that Dynamips support switching module (which can be use instead of 3550/3560). Following router model that Dynamips support with switching module are;

3620

3640

3660

2691

3725

3745

2600

Hi There,

Thanks for the input. I will give it shot with Ethernet SW modules on one of supported platform. Hope can test everything using these modules cause would like to avoid purchasing 3550s/3560s. Thanks for your time.

You can do your practice with Dynamips.

However, for the final exam preparation, I suggest for you to invest in workbook and online rack-time (setup according to the workbook). There are training centers that sells workbooks and online rack-time.

I used dynamips for 95% of my ccie studies.

In theory you could use it solely for passing the exam but its a little risky. I would reccomend investing in a little rack time to get familiar with all the switch features.
