non-linear behavior of input errors on 7500 POS interface

Though the input packet error rate on our 7500 POS interface

(PA-POS-2OC3 on VIP6-80) is not very high (between 1 in 50000 /

1 in 250000 packets), it used to be zero until a few

weeks ago.

Then, input errors appeared but in a non-linear way:

as long as the input rate does not exceed 40 Mbps

we are hardly seeing any input erros, but then

the input error rate suddenly increases --

in other words, we see a non-linear behavior of the

input (packet) errors versus received packets.

As to the type of input errors: we don't see CRC

or framing errors so to me looks it's not related

to the SDH network. There's quite a few "abort"

errors (less than 50%) and the rest of the errors

are not identified.

We have similarly configured 7200s/7500s at the other

side of the STM-1 circuit.

Any ideas about the cause or further troubleshooting?

We can open a TAC case but I wonder if 1 in 50000

is high enough an error rate to really wonder.
