Intermittent Telnet access to 7513

Hi Guys,

I have a problem where i can only get remote telnet access to one of my Cisco 7513's every third or fourth attempt. The server attempting the access is containted within our management device network. and is behing an ASA. However, form our Office network i can access the 7513 every time.

The menagement server cann access every other Core network device without issue, and i can also see the connections being built to the 7513 via the ASA everytime too.

Please help, this is becoming an issue for us!

Stephen,

I would check your config, as it could be limiting the connections to a specific type i.e

login vty 0 4

then all others 5 x - are something else?

Cheers for getting back. the config seems ok.

line vty 0 4

access-class 123 in

exec-timeout 30 0

password 7 060101205F460C0B

transport input telnet

Access class allows all relevant networks.

Only difference is that the Management network is behind an asa and the office network is behind a checkpoint. I'm looking at the ASA right now. But if any other ideas come, please let me know.

Config looks OK - however you are limiting access with the acl 123. So just to be sure I would double check the acl - even put a deny any any LOG on the end, then rety to telnet and see if it hits the deny any any rule!

Mmmmmm the first thing I would check would be the last 5 change requests on the ASA and Router! to see if any of the changes could be causing the issue?

Thanks for update with this. This is an old problem, an this is also a network i have inherited :(

However, i think i have found the issue. The switch where the affected servers are connected on the management netwrork, it's ports are showing huge numbers of in/out errors. Gonna change this tonight to auto/auto and see if this makes a difference.
