2811 memory upgrade

I have 5 28xx with default memory 256mb. Original memory stick for 512mb costs around 3500USD. The same stick from PC DDR1, PC333, 512mb - only 20USD. (Save is 3500*5-20*5=17400USD)

I have installed the sticks, routers loaded well, memory was defined well but with warning that new DIMM is without ECC. So in "show version" i get:

DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity disabled.

How important is that? Did anybody met any problem with this thing? I am about to set the routers to server the network and wondering a bit.

Thanks for the link. But there is never a word about parity check or ECC...

Hi,

I have done some research in to it, and the reason why we are getting the message "DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity disabled" , is because the installed DRAM does NOTsupport parity. If you install parity supporting DRAM on a router it enables parity and then checks for parity errors.

You can't enable parity in a system that doesn't have the correct type

of DRAM installed.
