CCNA router purchase?

Unanswered Question
Jan 1st, 2009

Where can I find a cheap router for completing my CCNA course requirements. I have checked on e-bay there are a few but they only sell them in bundles of 20 pieces for $30 only. I just want one piece willing to pay up to $90 for it for a good version with Cisco IOS. Any suggestions???

I have this problem too.

If you're looking for a single router and you have everything else, unfortunately eBay is probably your best option. If you're looking for a complete kit required for a CCNA prep, then there's a site called ciscokits (I don't like giving free publicity so I won't give a URL, but google and you'll find it). They offer complete kits (switch, router) with extra labs and all the small stuff you might not get from eBay purchases otherwise.

CiscoKits is a decent vendor. But I find them to be a bit over priced. There are 3 stores that I have used with good results.

Just about any router will work for the CCNA. They all will run the main routing protocols. Some of the cheaper ones might not do IPv6. Also, be aware of the interfaces included in the routers. Though, if you are buying just one, that's not as big of a concern.

You may want to check out GNS3 as an alternative to buying physical routers at this stage of the game. It's free, and it will let you do most anything.
