cisco switch'port connected to ip phone and its configuration

Answered Question
Jan 3rd, 2009

Hi every body!

My book shows the following configurations:

switch# show running-config interface fastethernet 0/47

switchport access vlan 10

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport mode access

switchport voice vlan 100

------------------------------------

Would the above configuration will cause the port to be in trunk mode or access mode?

If in trunk mode why? because "switchport mode access" commands instructs the port to be in access mode and why use that command in the first place ?

thanks a lot!

Hello Sarah,

what I wrote in the other post applies here too

the port is in access mode

switchport mode access

the command switchport trunk enc dot1q is not effective until the port is in access mode

these questions are done to create some confusion.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Thanks for your reply Giuseppe and my apology for any confusion my questions may have caused.

Actually I posted the question in wrong forum and later Jon reminded me of my mistake so I just moved those questions into the right forum.

One thing I undesrtand if you hard-code the port as access port , it can not form trunk. The command" switchport mode access" does that but then you can not form trunk on that access port.

Any correction would be greatly appreciated.
