I can't get cisco 857 sync with telstra bigpond adsl service. It won't get into the showtime status. Attached is the screen capture for debuging atm event. The attenuation is so high (61db) as I can tell. But it uses 2wire modem connected to the adsl service fine. If the attenuation cant be reduced because of the distance, is there a way to use cisco router?

Hello Lydia,
or your router is facing an interoperability issue with the remote end OR the ADSL card in the router is not working properly.
If you have a web access to the 2wire modem you can try to read the attenuation for this device if is very different there are chances your router DSL interface is defective.

You could also try to update IOS image to a newer version in the hope a new firmaware version for the DSL card is installed.
go to 12.4(20)T or later.
