Impact of modifying the Native VLAN

Hi,

Let's take 2 switches connected with a trunk. The trunk between them is set up with different native VLANs.

What would be the impact of modifying the Native VLAN to be identical on both sides? Can it cause a SPT recalculation?

thanks

Hello Christian,

in theory STP shouldn't be impacted because you are not modifying the list of vlans permitted on the trunks but you are changing the way two vlans are encapsulated over the link.

I mean PVST+ where you have one instance for each vlan.

To make the native vlan match can correct some connectivity issues so it is something that is recommended.

Hope to help

Christian,

You should schedule an outage window to modify the native vlan to be identical on both sides as a precaution. I don't believe this will cause any STP recalculation.

HTH,

ok, I'll test it on our lab first...

thanks to both for your answer and time
