Im interested to find out if it is possible to configure a switch port to accept a VGA signal and then route this to another port on a different switch? therefore linking the ports

No. There is no way to route or switch a raw video signal of any type via an Ethernet switch of any type.

There are some IP-based KVM switches that will not only route *VGA video, but mouse, keyboard, and in some cases, audio & mic.

You can also encapsulate video in any of several ways (MPEG2, MPEG4, several flavors of AVI, or H.264 to name a few) and use Ethernet as a transport to the "other side" (however far that might be), where it will be extracted and reconstituted into video (search around for IPTV). IPTV is not "VGA" per se, but once you get the intermediate transport figured out, the endpoints can be anything.

Good Luck
