Hi all, I have a small query
With cisco routers, do they have an IOS image and a boot image?
if so what does the boot image look like, ie the name when I do show flash
cheers

The IOS image(internet operating system) allows the router to run its images.the boot image allows the router to boot up on that image e.g
ROM: Bootstrap program is C3750 boot loader
BOOTLDR: C3750 Boot Loader (C3750-HBOOT-M) Version 12.1(19r)EA1b, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
PPML-ST1-251 uptime is 4 hours, 1 minute
System returned to ROM by power-on
System restarted at 11:30:39 UTC Mon Jan 5 2009
System image file is "flash:c3750-i5-mz.122-20.SE1.bin"
the ios image isSystem image file is "flash:c3750-i5-mz.122-20.SE1.bin
and the boot image is:
BOOTLDR: C3750 Boot Loader (C3750-HBOOT-M) Version 12.1(19r)EA1b, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
The sh ver on the device will display these messages
