bgp peer group

guys if we have config peer group in bgp and suppose we have internal peer group and one external peer group if we have 192.168.1.1 as an external peer group now if we want to applu a route-map to this peer how we would do it i tried neigbor 192.168.1.1 route-map ha and the router rejected it saying not valid command for peer group can someone please help

Do you want to apply the route-map to all the routers that belong to the peer-group or just one of them?

na just one of them if it was all of them its easy the problem is one of them...thanks

If you want to use the route-map for route filtering, you can use distribute list

A distribute-list to the neighbor configuration will take precedence over the peer group configuration

Assigning Peer group with same host which u have mapped with Neibhor IP will not work. Both should be different.

Hello Khan,

a peer-group is a groups of BGP peers that share an outbound routing policy.

In previous releases peer-groups were a needed tool for scalability because the router builds a single set of updates for all the BGP peer groups members.

In later releases a router is able to detect peers that share the same policy with the so called update groups and so this advantage of peer-groups has been reduced.

In a real world if a peer has different needs I would remove it from the peer-group and configure the desired filters over its BGP session.

This is to make clear it has different outbound policies.
