hi all

when talking about ospf point to point, how does it function over a serial interface, does a normal serial e1 interface support multicast? or do you have to manually configure the neighbour?

Hello Carl,

you don't need to configure the neighbor until L2 encapsulation is not Frame-Relay.

main interface with FR encapsulation is treated as NBMA and needs the neighor statements or the

ip ospf network broadcast

the type of OSPF network can be seen with sh ip ospf interface type x/y

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi

When u r using it on the serial interface and if the encapsulation is not frame-relay it should work normally and just to add there is no dr/bdr election.

Thanks

Mahmood

so, are we saying multicast/broadcast works on normal serial interfaces fro this ?
