Unanswered Question

Hi, I want to configured the policy based Routing of Internet traffic on Cisco 2811 Router.

Case Study.

1. At present, ISP1 broadband Internet connectivity is terminated on Serial interface of Cisco 2811 router. We will be having second Internet connectivity from ISP2 terminating on either Ethernet or Serial interface of the same Cisco 2811 router.

2. Can we configure the following policy based routing of Internet traffic.

A. First preference to Internet browsing will be through ISP1 and alternate preference should be ISP2

B. First preference to branches VPN traffic will be through ISP2 and alternate preference should be ISP1

C. We have some servers published using ISP1 Public IP addresses. We want an alternate routing through ISP2 Internet connectivity for the same.

Need Help to configured this.

Regards.

Santosh.

Hello Santosh,

from a routing point of view what you ask is possible but you need to handle also NAT:

ISP2, without an explicit agreement between you him ISP1 will never accept to route to you packets with destinations that are part of ISP1 address block.

So for point C you need to have a second pool of public ip addresses taken from ISP2 to be used only if link to ISP1 fails to map your servers.

Hope to help
