Bandwidth Used by EIGRP

Unanswered Question

Hi, How we can know how much bandwidth is used by EIGRP process on the interface. Like, if s0 has 2 Mbs link, and EIGRP used 50% by default. I want to see the concurrent bandwidth used by Eigrp. Please help.

I have this problem too.

Hello Rupesh,

in a steady state network EIGRP uses very few bandwidth just to exchange hello packets.

the ip eigrp bandwidth-percent command allows to shape the EIGRP rate during sending updates.

But EIGRP sends updates only when needed: new networks or state changes.

This is different from what RIP does : it sends updates for all known routes every 30 seconds.

OSPF refreshes LSAs every 30 minutes.

So you shouldn't face issues with EIGRP on a E1 link in normal conditions

Hope to help

As Giuseppe notes, EIGRP bandwidth usage on an E1 is unlikely to be of much concern. However, one method to see its bandwidth usage would be to use CBWFQ and dedicate a class to EIGRP. That class's stats would provide bandwidth usage information.
