how does DSL work at home to ISP

Hi all

Can anyone help, Can anyone in simple terms tell me how my ISP connects to my router from there network and how they assign a dhcp address to it, also how is the circuit made between me and the isp, if all isp's use the same VC's etc how does it connect only to my ISP at login ?
