Hi Muhammad,

the ouput you have pasted does not mean it is running VTP version 2.

when you issue command vtp staus, pay attention to 8th line where it says VTP V2 mode, if it is enabled then this switch is running version 2 otherwise it is running version 1 but switch is capable to run version 2.

Here I paste the full output from one of the switch

----------------------------------------------

Switch013#sh vtp status

VTP Version : 2

Configuration Revision : 7

Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005

Number of existing VLANs : 8

VTP Operating Mode : Server

VTP Domain Name : Marketing

VTP Pruning Mode : Disabled

VTP V2 Mode : Disabled

VTP Traps Generation : Disabled

MD5 digest : 0x2B 0xC9 0xB0 0xB4 0x75 0xFA 0x62 0x67

Configuration last modified by 192.168.1.2 at 12-17-06 19:43:01

Local updater ID is 192.168.1.8 on interface Vl1 (lowest numbered VLAN interface

found)

----------------------------------------------

I know it is little confusing, I have not seen anyone using VTP version 2, it is only needed in some special cases.

Hope this Helps....

Hi,

The first output shows this switch supports version 2 but it is not enabled on this switch

second output says this switch is enabled with vtp version 2.

run command vtp version 2 on first switch then see the changes.

Thanks,

Hemant Sharma

I heard VTP Version 1 and 2 are not compatible.

But when i changed my switch to VTP 1 then it got vlan updates from vtp2 server, why so?

Output of my VTP server

sh vtp status

VTP Version : 2

Output of my VTP Client

sh vtp status

VTP Version running VTP1 (VTP2 capable)
