Cisco Unity Express - Retrieving saved messages via download or UC

Is there a way to extract the voicemail for a user that is saved?

Here is the issue. At this time a user cannot listen to messages remotely by logging into their mailbox while on the road, an issue we are currently working on today to resolve. But in the mean time the voicemail is pretty critical.

Is there a way to get this info off the cue via download, extract, etc... and listen to it via a media player?

Thanks,

Rick

Hi Rick,

If you are talking about downloading (extracting) existing voicemails then no, there is no way of obtaining these.

If you are talking about taking newly received voicemails and making them available via an e-mail client or other then yes, it is possible.

The function you are looking for is called 'Message Notification" - if you are using the GUI look under 'Voicemail -> Message Notification'. It must be enabled globally and then individually assigned to users.

There are many ways of obtaining the voicemail such as having CUE dial a pre-determined cell/mobile number and playing the message to the called number, or by sending an e-mail to the user and attaching the message in a WAV format. The message will still be available from the user's IP phone.

Look at this PDF for more information (go to page 106):

One question would be, why can't you allow the users access to voicemail externally? If you have a spare DDI point that at the CUE pilot, or if you are using AA you can hide an option in there to access voicemail. A caller is then prompted for their extension and PIN number - a good reason to make complex PINs.

Hope this has helped,

Glenn
