Working with QoS

Unanswered Question
Jan 22nd, 2009

I am looking for a way to prioritize traffic on my network. I have a CISCO 861 running ISO version 12.4(15r)XZ2. I want to do it by IP address first, maybe later by port. I know to use QoS but when I search the internet, there are just so many ways to do it just made me more confused. Can anyone help with this, or point me in the direction that I can read and learn how to do such a thing? Again, I know it is possible and I don't want to limit the bandwidth, just make it so a particular IP / Server has priority.

I have this problem too.

Hi Dale,

Here's a link to the IOS QoS config guide.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/qos/configuration/guide/12_4/qos_12_4_book.html

You should first classify your packets by IP address or port number, then set the DSCP values as desired.

Later downstream devices will be able to use your priority settings to handle the packets in accordance with your configurations.

Cheers:

Istvan
