HWIC-DSLSAR with Alcatel module not working on Cisco 2821 Router

Hi! All,

I've configured HWIC-DSLSAR with alcatel module on cisco 2821 router. After configuration the card which has the interface ATM 0/0/0 shows initializing and protocol down. The IP towards ISP's side is DHCP and therefore it is configured as negotiated. Can Some One Help me in getting this card work on 2821.

The help would be highly appreciated.

thanks

Attached is output of various commands needed to check the configuration part.

Please Help.

This interface is set for loopback mode. Use the 'no loopback diagnostic' or 'no loopback line' interface configuration commands to disable the loopback mode.

The section that begins Loopback Diagnostic

hope this helps

Dear Sir,

The show interface atm 0/0/0 clearly shows that loopback not set.

yourname#show interface atm 0/0/0

ATM0/0/0 is initializing, line protocol is down

Hardware is HWIC-DSLSAR (with Alcatel ADSL Module)

MTU 4470 bytes, sub MTU 4470, BW 2048 Kbit, DLY 250 usec,

reliability 0/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation ATM, loopback not set

Encapsulation(s): AAL5 AAL2, PVC mode

23 maximum active VCs, 256 VCs per VP, 0 current VCCs

VC Auto Creation Disabled.

VC idle disconnect time: 300 seconds

Last input never, output never, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters never

Input queue: 0/224/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0

Queueing strategy: Per VC Queueing

5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

0 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 no buffer

Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort

0 packets output, 0 bytes, 0 underruns

0 output errors, 0 collisions, 0 interface resets

0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

Hi, from show diag you have an ADSL over ISDN HWIC.

Are you positive that you have an ISDN line with ADSL ? If no, be advised that that card cannot work with regular ADSL over POTS.

Else, take show dsl interface, you may need a firmware upgrade.

the line is ADSL over Basic phone using ADSL2+ technology.

yourname#show interface atm 0/0/0

ATM0/0/0 is initializing, line protocol is down

Hardware is HWIC-DSLSAR (with Alcatel ADSL Module)

MTU 4470 bytes, sub MTU 4470, BW 2048 Kbit, DLY 250 usec,

reliability 0/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation ATM, loopback not set

Encapsulation(s): AAL5 AAL2, PVC mode

VC Auto Creation Disabled.

VC idle disconnect time: 300 seconds

Last clearing of "show interface" counters never

Kindly advice.

Then as said above you cannot use the card you have (should be labelled HWIC-ADSLI) and you need to get the correct model HWIC-ADSL without the I.

The card model is HWIC-DSLSAR with alcatel module. It was installed on Cisco 2821 router with IP base and was not detected. IOS was upgraded and after that it detected the card. And it was configured as given in show run command.

Please advice

Hi, no such model HWIC-DSLSAR exists, that is only a string used by IOS to identify all HWIC ADSL cards. The one you have is the ISDN variety - check show diag and the physical label.

As indicated above, this type cannot be used on ADSL over POTS lines, and cannot be upgraded to do so.

please let me know that will this card work on ADSL over basic phone line.

If not which card will work?

Please advice

Hi, as I said three times already the card will not work.

I've indicated the appropriate model in my first reply, please read it again.

Sir,Thanks for your Patience, which is greatly appreciated. As this Router is in outstation, would you pls let us know,if rest of the configuration for installation is Alright,As I can get this problem fixed only with the other HWIC-1ADSL or some other changes are reqd;this would help me in getting fully prepared for installing the same.

Configuration depends by the encapsulation used by the ISP. You need to know PVC number, and if rfc1483, PPPoA, or PPPoE. For the latter two you also need to know username and password.

PVC number is 0

VPI/VCI is 0/35

Encapsulation is PPPoE

username and password are already given as shown by show run command.

attached is the output of show run command.

You do not need the vpdn commands and hold-queue settings.

You may need ip tcp adjust-mss 152 under g0/0.

You default route commands do not make sense to me, three of them ?

You can replace the dialer one with "ppp ipcp default route" under interface dialer.

Beside that it looks fine.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions.

After replacing the HWIC-1ADSLI with HWIC-1ADSL, I will make the changes as directed and will give you the feedback.
