Hi, I have a Catalyst 6509 running CatOS. I would like to know if the MAC address 00-d0-00-59-67-ff that appears when I type the "show module" command is a multicast MAC Address and what is it for?.

mxswt_idf16a01# (enable) show module

Besides I want to know why does this MAC Address appears when I type the "show cam 00-d0-00-59-67-ff" command on the Destination Port 1/3, if this module is a Supervisor WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE with just 2 gigabit ports.

mxswt_idf16a01# show cam 00-d0-00-59-67-ff

Hello Irene,

the MAC address is part of the supervisor block of mac addresses see from sh module

00-d0-00-59-64-00 to 00-d0-00-59-67-ff

it is on module 1 the supervisor.

I'm not sure but port 1/3 could be an internal port to backplane or better to PFC.

on supervisor 2 in hybrid mode I remember to have seen port 15/1 to MSFC daughter card

16/1 to MSFC installed in second supervisor.

So this could be an explanation like 15/1 is not a physical port that is accessible from outside this port 1/3 can be the way to access some daughter card for example the PFC

you have a slot 15 that probably is a routing module stand alone (MSM I think it is called)

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hello Giuseppe.

I apreciate your answer. I would like to know what does this supervisor block of mac addresses do? or what is the principal function for this?

00-d0-00-59-64-00 to 00-d0-00-59-67-ff
