how to avoid routing loop ?

you avoid routing loop by having correct ip routes in your routers.

you can discover routing loops when pinging a host and you get the result : TTL expired in transit.

when you make a tracert you will find at one level a loop of IP1 IP2 IP1 IP2 .... until the TTL will expire.

that means the router IP1 is configured to send the packet to IP2 and the opposit.

that's why we obtain the loop.

so even you have an error in rtr configuration or may be one route is lost (network down) so the rtr uses the default route that sends the packet back to the original rtr
