6500 switchport command rejected

Hi

I need help for some weird pb.

When trying to configure a port of 6500 as a layer 2 port (on 6148A-GE-TX module) by entering the "switchport" command, the switch rejects the command with "not a switching port" as error message !

About half of the card ports are already configured as switching ports, the others are not used (so shutdown and routed by default)

I have tried on another 6500 (same card, same ios version) without any problem.

IOS version : 12.2(33)SXH3A modular (IPbaseK9)

Thanks for your help

Caroline

Hello Caroline,

had that specific port be used in recent past as a L3 interface ?

if so and the switch has not been reloaded since there can be some IDB structure for the phantom L3 config

try to do:

int gx/y

no ip address

shut

int gix/y

no shut

switchport

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi

Thanks for your response.

I tested what you said and unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem.

I didn't try to reboot but I can't for the moment.

Any other idea ?

Caroline

Hello Caroline,

I would try to use the default command that should reset config of the port

conf t

default interface gix/y

then because a port is L3 by default

int gix/y

switchport

other possible option could be that of reloading the whole module with

hw-module module x reset

Hope to help

Giuseppe
