Power reservation for redundant Sup despite VSS

Just converted a pair of 6509's to VSS at the weekend, one of which doesn't quite have enough power for redundant mode - due to the power reservation for the Redundant Supervisor. But redundant supervisors aren't supported under VSS and won't be for a long time I expect.

Is there any way to remove the reservation?

Are you seeing the redundancy mode operationally = non-redundant? You will need to have 2 x PS to have this operationally redundant.

For example on switch with a single PS configured for redundant power mode:

system power total = 2331.00 Watts (55.50 Amps @ 42V)

system power used = 1021.86 Watts (24.33 Amps @ 42V)

This is because it only have one power supply plugged in. Your switch is probably in the same power supply configurations. There is no to remove the reservation.

No I have two PSU's currently operating combined, and without the Sup power reservation I would have enough power to run redundant mode:

system power available = 1713.60 Watts (40.80 Amps @ 42V)

The output looks like you have the power redundancy mode in combined.

Try this:

VSS(config)#power red red switch x >> x being the switch you're configuring it on.

VSS(config)#power red combined switch 1

VSS(config)#do show power

system power redundancy mode = combined

system power redundancy operationally = non-redundant

system power total = 2331.00 Watts (55.50 Amps @ 42V)

system power used = 1021.86 Watts (24.33 Amps @ 42V)

system power available = 1309.14 Watts (31.17 Amps @ 42V)

Yes I do, it won't go into redundant mode because of insufficient power - the only thing that's putting me over the total available from each PSU is the reservation for the Redundant Sup - which can't be added to a VSS configuration anyhow.
