Hi,

I am new to MPLS IP VPN and have a basic question. Can two different IP VPN with the same BGP ASN communicate to each other ? If yes, this would presumably done at the ISP site. What would they do to make this happen ? ie) redistribution ?

Thank you,

Cheers,

Hi,

I have found that most ISP's will not allow routes to pass between different MPLS VPN's (although technically it is possible using route targets etc.). In MPLS VPN each VPN has it's own VRF (Virtual Routing and Forwarding) table and the importing/exporting of routes between VRF's is not a practice I have found ISP's are willing to perform.

Typically for an inter-corporate type connection (different MPLS VPN's) to communicate with each other a provider will build some type of PVC or IPsec VPN to a gateway box and allow the connectivity in that manner.

If this is the type of connection you need I would discuss the possibilities with your MPLS provider.

Hope this helps!
