Router doesn't perform EIGRP load metric component calculation

Hi all,
I've try to tune EIGRP to calculate its metric based on load value but it seems doesn't work. My config of EIGRP process is below:

router eigrp 1
network 0.0.0.0
metric weights 0 1 1 1 0 0
no auto-summary

After loading the link I saw that load value changed depending on loading but there wasn't any metric changes even after clearing neighbors session.

R3#show ip eigrp topology 155.1.10.0/24
IP-EIGRP (AS 1): Topology entry for 155.1.10.0/24
State is Passive, Query origin flag is 1, 1 Successor(s), FD is 39215
Routing Descriptor Blocks:
155.1.13.1 (Serial0/1), from 155.1.13.1, Send flag is 0x0
Composite metric is (39215/100), Route is Internal
Vector metric:
Minimum bandwidth is 256 Kbit
Total delay is 20100 microseconds
Reliability is 255/255
Load is 85/255
Minimum MTU is 1500
Hop count is 1
155.1.31.1 (Serial0/2.1), from 155.1.31.1, Send flag is 0x0
Composite metric is (156862/100), Route is Internal
Vector metric:
Minimum bandwidth is 64 Kbit
Total delay is 20100 microseconds
Reliability is 255/255
Load is 1/255
Minimum MTU is 1500
Hop count is 1

It is used c3745-adventerprisek9-mz.124-23.bin software.

Has anyone faced with such problem?

I have this problem too.

Hello Vladimir,

in another thread of some mounths ago Russ White (Cisco Ssytems) explained that current EIGRP implementation is not able to react to load changes on the link.

The load used is the that at the time of enabling EIGRP on the interface.

If after time usage of the link changes the metric doesn't change.

There are plans to implement this he said but with no dates.

Current EIGRP implementations use the standard K values based on BW and delay only.

To be noted that implementation can cause problems:

while the link is empty traffic is moved to the link then the link is full and its metric becomes higher.

So you can imagine what can happen on two parallel links: a poor implementation could cause oscillation of traffic between the two links.

Current implementation is static.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
