Hi all, can anyone help.

If I have a layer 3 gigabit switch and 1 port is constantly transmitting at say 900meg a second, will it affect the performance of the switch in a whole? ie other users plugged into it?

Hi ,,

That depends upon the Switch module as some of the modules have single Buffer memory for a range of Switch Ports and some another have dedicated buffer memory for each Switch Port.

Please get me the Switch module name

Regards

Rahul

lets say c3560

The 3560 is like the 3750. Physical port are connected to port ASIC, If i remember correctly, those port ASIC have an 8 Gbps capacity. All port asics are linked together bay a dual 16 Gbps ring.

If you do a sh plat port-asic version, you will see the number of port asic on that platform.

Hi there, so is this 8 gig, the buffer space? when would the buffer be needed? is it when there is congestion in the switch ?
