ASA 5500 series and Barracuda

I have a Barracuda spam filter behind an ASA firewall.

At random, some emails sent by my users return with the error: read timeout.

I troubleshot the issue with Barracuda support, they say there's probably a problem with the firewall, although the configuration looks just sound.

Anyone has a suggestion?

Do you have logging enabled on the ASA? Are there any messages logged during the times when users are receiving the error?

What about ESMTP inspection? Is that enabled on the ASA? If so, have you tried to temporarily disable it for troubleshooting purposes? Please reference the following configuration guide:
