I have a linux box setup with tftp/dhcp/dns for the phone network.

I have SIPDefault.cnf and then also a corresponding SIP.cnf which has specifics for the phone. I have not found any documentation anywhere on how to change the softkeys with the SIP firmware.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is something you can do.

In the .cnf.xml file the phone downloads, add/edit this field:

softkeyDefault.xml

Here's the default from my SIP CME system, attached.

I was unaware that the latest sip firmware for 7960 used xml files. I have a SIPDefault.cnf and a SIP.cnf

I'm not sure about this. They are probably similar. This was from a Cisco 3951 SIP phone, but I imagine it's fairly similar.

I don't currently have a 7940/60 set up in the lab to test with.
