Training prior to CCNA?

Unanswered Question

I am wondering if there is any basic training/reading/cbt someone should take on prior to tackling the CCNA material?

I have some people in the company I work for that do basic desktop/helpdesk support that have expressed interest in networking. Id love to point them in a right direction for study but I am not sure the CCNA material is the right place to start. Some of them already have their A+, some dont. My first thought was TCP/IP illustrated vol 1.

any ideas?

I have this problem too.

Personally, I did the CompTIA Network+ certification before I started down the CCNA path. If you wanted to do something prior to the CCNA, that would be a good option. It's pretty basic and vendor neutral.

But, I wouldn't call it a requirement to do something before the CCNA.

To be honest, the Network + etc are a bit of a waste of time, effort and money.

If you get a good quality CCNA book it should have all the TCP stuff in there. I would recommend doing the CCENT first as you get a good quality cert in return for your study time and are half way to CCNA.
