Unknown regional settings, no caller id, disconnection on FXO inbound calls

Answered Question
Feb 9th, 2009

Hello,

We have some problems with both Linksys PAP and SPA 3102.

During an inbound call on a PAP, no matter of the phone brand or model used, the phone rings a first time, shorter than usual. The phone stops ringing shortly and appears not being in the state of an incoming call anymore. After this short pause, the telephone rings again with the normal cadence until  the call is taken

the call cannot be catch between first and second ring (as the phone isn’t in an incoming call state). Furthermore, the caller id is not displayed on the phone.

Obviously, it’s an ring cadence setting and caller id method issue, unfortunately, it’s very difficult to find the correct settings to use PAP or 3102 in France.

With the SPA3102, we have some trouble to get the Caller Id from the FXO port during an incoming call. Some inbound calls (about, 1/6 calls) are hanged up after just 1 second. Should be a problem with the disconnect tone setting.

We have the same problem than with the PAP for the phone plugged into the FXS port. Again, it seems to be related to the Ring cadence and caller id method settings.

Thanks to the admin guides of PAP and SPA3102, we did understand the ring cadence and others settings « language » but even with the France-Télécom (french telco)  technical documentation, we cannot find any working parameters.

Would it be possible to publish a documentation or send me the parameters for the whole « regional » tab of the web configuration interface (dial tones, impedance, ring tones species, ring cadences…) for use in France ?

Thank you.

I have this problem too.

Dear Sir;

Please see below the tones for France. Impedance is as indicated by Patrick. Please bear in mind that you need to configure the disconnect tone in the SPA3102 FXO port in order to terminate the call properly. It is the same as the reorder tone highlighted below.

- Caller ID for France is ETSI FSK DTAS

Hi,

I have the following settings for France:

Impedance: 270+750||150nF [215+1000||137 and 290+925||165nF are not supported]

     Dial Tone: 440@-14;*(*/0/1)
     Busy: 440@-20;(.5/.5/1)
     Ring back: 440@-16;(.15/.35/1)

If the above does not help, perhaps I can help you arrive at the correct settings.

The SPA3102's FXS port is similar to the SPA9000's FXS ports.

The SPA3102's FXO port is similar to the SPA400's FXO port.

You could review the configurations of a SPA9000 and SPA400 that are regionalized for France, and use these settings for your PAP and SPA3102 devices.

If you don't have access to a SPA9000/SPA400, contact me off list at paborn at cisco and I'll configure some systems and send you the configuration files.

Thank you for your answers guys!

It seems that dial tones settings are corrects, I checked the telco doc and your settings are ok.

I'll keep it for futur use of PAP and SPA.

I have some weird problem on one spa. I did have some disconnection problems and your settings seems to fix it.But now the problem appears in the other way...it doesn't happen on inbound call anymore but outbound. I tried to originate a fake call from an asterisk server, dialing an external number with the SPA PSTN gateway and connecting it to an automated echo test. The spa is dialing normaly and I get the call at the called number. The test never hangup so the callee have to hangup when done with the test. When I hungup, the spa does not get the disconnect tone and the call stay up until I manualy hangup the channel in asterisk (soft hangup).

On the same box, still no CLID with ETSI V23, maybe the telco doesn't send it.

Thanks for the link and settings you sent me. For this box I'll investigate the problem, check the telco, cable and stuff... change the spa to another one and let you know.

Last question... In the disconnect tone setting, the level of transmition should be : the level that the telco send or the threshold level the SPA should detect?

Thank you.

Dear Sir;

With regards of your questions:

I have some weird problem on one spa. I did have some disconnection problems and your settings seems to fix it.But now the problem appears in the other way...it doesn't happen on inbound call anymore but outbound. When I hungup, the spa does not get the disconnect tone and the call stay up until I manualy hangup the channel in asterisk (soft hangup).

A: Please check the syntax of the disconnect tone you are setting on the SPA3102 (on the Line 1 setting), it may be the case that it is wrong so it is not sending anything or it is sending the wrong frequency/cadence. It should work.

On the same box, still no CLID with ETSI V23, maybe the telco doesn't send it.

A: Check with telco (call customer service) to see the status of the this supplementary service, sometimes it is optional.

Last question... In the disconnect tone setting, the level of transmition should be : the level that the telco send or the threshold level the SPA should detect?

A: Level the box should detect, so set it to a low value (-18/-20). Default typically works on PSTN lines...
