DCE V.24 (RS-232), clock stopped

I am trying to connect a smart serial interface on the router to RS232 modem.

Serial interface goes up, but line protocol is down. When doing sh controllers serial 0/0/0 I get DCE V.24 (RS-232), clock stopped message. What does it mean? Have I got a missmatching cable? The thing is that I had Cisco SmartSerial-to-RS232(male cable) and we remade it to SmartSerial-to-RS232 female DCE cable.

Hello Fuad,

the RS-232 is asynchronous serial, how have you configured the router serial interface ?

It should be configured for async mode I suppose.

Post you config and the sh controller serial

This is config from a working router, where we used original cisco cable. The same config I got on the router I was talking about.

DCE V.24 (RS-232), clock stopped

Also, can you please explain me the difference between cisco cables CAB-SS-232FC and CAB-SS-232FC-EXT? Specificly, the number of RS232 pins, is it the same?

Said this, coming back to this thread if configuration is fine the problem is probably on the cable that you said is hand made.

I cannot find the cable name you have provided.

I looked on the cisco web site.

RS-232 is a 25 pin cable spec.

Cisco Serial cables go out with a 60 pin cable for synch serials.

To assembly the required you need a cable converter from cisco serial cable to 25 pin rs-232

So post a sh ver to understand exactly what type of serial is in your router.

or verify if the serial interface have a 60 pins output.
