Hi strictly speaking we should not have the 2nd server taking calls while the primary is being upgraded but we are adding an additional language - could the 2nd server be left as active while the upgrade is being done on Primary?..cheers, Jag

Jag,

After some more digging, adding a language actually constitutes a software upgrade, which is categorized differently than simply applying an ES to the primary, while failing over to the secondary and have it take calls. Upgrades require both servers be out of service:

Sorry for the confusion. So, you'll want to ultimately do this off hours.

Brad

Jag,

This is possible to do. It's the same process as if you were installing an ES on the primary. The secondary would take the calls while the primary was down. Just remember that adding languages needs to be done on both primary and secondary.

Hope that helps,

Brad

Brad,

customer is insisting he needs the technical reasons why both servers have to be off the air while upgrading software, we have tried the normal stuff like database corruption and non TAC supported but they need more specifics, any suggestions?,

Chris, good call on this one. Will this rolling upgrade apply for adding languages??

Absolutely. Adding a language is pretty much the same as upgrading. Remember to re-apply any Engineering Specials you may have previously applied to your systems.
