Unity4.x Exchange/deleted folder

Answered Question

Hi Guys,

I have a CM 4.x with Unity 4.x at one of my location. The MS Exchange Message Store on the Unity 4.x Box is getting big and filling up my disk space.

I have no policy set up to delete voice mail messages from the deleted folder on the Client VM mail boxes. I believe the deleted folder is the problem.

Is there any policy set up by default to empty the deleted folder, either Windows or Cisco?

What are most folks using, a windows MS Exchange mail box policy, or something from Unity Tools?

How many days or how much disk space are you allowing users before you empty their deleted folder?

Thanks Tom

Tom,

In Exchange System Manager you can drill down to the mailbox store and go to properties>limits tab. Here you'll see the default amount of days to keep deleted items and deleted mailboxes. I believe default is 7 and 30 respectively.

From a Microsoft perspective, you may need to run an online/offline defrag which is explained here:

From a Unity perspective, you can use the Message Store Manager tool to empty deleted items at a configured interval:

Not sure what is typically done in the field as it varies, someone may want to jump in and share their plan of attack.

Hope that helps,

Brad
