Solved: Autonomous to LWAPP - supported models !!!

Hi Netpros,

I have a bunch of APs I need to find out whether they can be upgraded to LWAPP. Please see the 'show ver'. Note: I know I need to upgrade the IOS to version 12.3(7)JA or later first .. but I would like to know whether the model will actually be supported. Your help is much appreciated.

I have read the attched document but I am still having doubts

the lowdown here, is the AP needs to have a MP21G, RM21A or RM22A. If you have the older 1200 or 1100 model, you may need to upgrade the chip. Same for the A radio, if you have the older RM20A, it will not join.

Basically the radio must support AES encryption to allow the LWAPP control tunnel to be established. You can update several older models to function with LWAPP.

Hi Fernando,

Just to add a note to the great tips from Steve, Dennis and Leo (3 of my faves here:) +5 points each guys for your excellent support!

You will be good to go with the radio you have installed in the 1231***;

Migration from autonomous access point mode to lightweight mode is possible on these Cisco Aironet access point platforms:

â€¢All 1121 access points

â€¢All 1130AG access points

â€¢All 1240AG access points

â€¢All 1250 series access points

â€¢For all IOS-based 1200 series modular access point (1200/1220 Cisco IOS Software Upgrade, 1210 and 1230 AP) platforms, it depends on the radio:

***-if 802.11G, MP21G and MP31G are supported

-if 802.11A, RM21A and RM22A are supported

The 1200 series access points can be upgraded with any combination of supported radios: G only, A only, or both G and A.

We upgraded many of these same 1231's without issue when we migrated to the LWAPP Platform.
