CUE-CME upgrade to CUE-CUCM

Is it possible to change an existing CUE 3.2.2 integrated with CME, over to CUE 3.2.2 with CUCM 6.1.3a WITHOUT losing greetings, etc.?

The only "integration guide" that seems to be authoritative is (Document ID: 60002), which states: "Note: There is no method to convert or back up and restore from a Cisco CallManager Express integrated with Cisco Unity Express to a Cisco CallManager integrated with Cisco Unity Express or vice versa. The card

must be re-imaged. This means that you must reapply the software and license, and all the configuration and

data, which includes voice mail messages, are lost."

However, that document is populated with CCM 3.3 screenshots, and has a last update of more than 18 months ago. Is the limitation still in effect?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kelly,

Sadly this limitation still applies even in CUE 7.x :(

If your system is already configured, you cannot change the license type from Cisco Unified Communications Manager to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express or vice versa. To change your license type, you must first reinstall Cisco Unity Express and then change your license type before you configure your system in any way.

Hope this helps! Sorry man,

Rob

Thanks, Rob. Right after I posted the above, I opened a SR to get the Official response, which elicited the same answer - no way to circumvent the limitation. A sad state of affairs, indeed, since it only hurts the customer.

Interestingly, the reason given by the TAC engineer was 'because of licensing'. And, I couldn't help pointing out that such a justification would seem to lack sound logic, in view of the fact that all CUE licenses are available for download on the 'honor system'.

In any event, Note to Unity Product Managers - - Since CUE runs on a mini linux server, and Unity Connection also runs on a linux server, could it be time to merge these products? Why support three disparate flavors of Unity when you could support only two? Or one?

Hi, you weren't clear about which greetings you didn't want to lose so:

With the changing of licence from CME to CCM or v.v. on a CUE module the only things that will be irretrievable are any user's personal greetings and voicemails (and for GDMs).

You can save AA scripts and their greetings and the CUE config and then reapply them when CUE has had it's license changed.

Changing the licence is very simple, these steps work:

Go to # prompt on CUE,

Type “offline”,

Type “restore factory default” and confirm with a “y”,

The system now reloads and then you get to start basic configuration,

Enter necessary information,

Get back to # prompt,

Type “software install clean url ftp://a.b.c.d/cue-vm-license_12mbx_ccm_3.2.2.pkg username USER password PASS” and confirm,

Now reload.

Assuming obviously you are installing CCM license ver. 3.2(2) for 12 users.

If you were referring to user greetings, PINs, voicemails, then yes you will lose them.

Hope this helps,

Glenn
