Previous posts said to use "clear configure <acl_name>" but that command doesn't exist in 8.04. Is there a new command?

You have missed variable form the command.
The command should be,
clear configure access-list

There is no "clear configure" command. Here's what I get when I enter 'clear ?' from the 'ASA (config)#' prompt:
capture Clear packets in a particular capture
conn Clear current connection information
console-output Clear messages stored in buffer
counters Clear protocol stack counters
cpu Clear CPU stats
crashinfo Crash information
crypto Clear crypto operational data
dhcpd Clear dhcpd binding | statistics
Am I missing something?

OK. The 'clear configure access-list
This must be a hidden command since it doesn't show up in the help list for 'clear ?'.
