hello
is this definition enough?
ARP:Translate IP TO MAC ADDRESS?
RARP:TRASLATE MAC TO IP?
thanks

ARP- Address Resolution Protocol
RARP- Reverse Address Resolution Protocol
I think translation is not a right word here. As ARP is method to find MAC address when IP is known.
for your understanding these defintion are fine but maybe not with somebody else.

Hello Ali,
both are protocols that perform a dynamic mapping :
ARP : resolve an IP address finding the MAC address to be used to reach that host in the lan segment
RARP : given a MAC address what is the associated IP address to be used for this NIC ?
this is the basis for BOOTP and for DHCP that uses bootp messages
Hope to help
