Hi,
The LSA type 4 is generated by ABRs and describes reachability to the ASBR.
The GRE Tunnels in IPv6 provides connectivity between 2 or More IPv6 Networks over IPv4, In MPLS it's being implemented because MPLS doesnt support IPv6 natively yet.
There are multiple ways 2 carry IPv6 Over MPLS:
1- 6PE.
2- 6VPE.
3- AToM (The payload is layer-2 Frames).
2- MPLS VPN Solution: This solution uses GRE Tunneling to carry IPv6 Over MPLS-VPN, The tunneling techniqes are:
1- 6to4.
2- IPv6 Over IP.
3- IPv4 compatible IPv6 Tunnels.

Hi,
You use it when you have 2 Or more IPv6 Domains needs to be connected over abn IPv4 or MPLS domains.

Ali,
As I responded on another post, an LSA type 4 is generated automatically by all ABRs (except the area where the ASBR lives or stubby areas) for each an every ASBR. They are used to calculate reachability to the ASBR.
