show version and show flash output on router

Hi every body!

I have few question:

show version ( i omitted the output for brevity)

---------------

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 5.2(8a), RELEASE SOFTWARE

BOOTLDR: 3000 Bootstrap Software (IGS-RXBOOT), Version 10.2(8a), RELEASE SOFTWAR

E (fc1)

1) To me it appears that"ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 5.2(8a), RELEASE SOFTWARE" show the bootstrap version if yes then what does"BOOTLDR: 3000 Bootstrap Software (IGS-RXBOOT), Version 10.2(8a), RELEASE SOFTWAR

E (fc1)" indicate ?

-----------------------------------------

"cisco 2500 (68030) processor (revision D) with 16384K/2048K bytes of memory"

1)The memory in above means RAM?

2) What does" 16384k/2048k" indicate?

----------------------------------------

show flash:

RouterA#show flash

System flash directory:

File Length Name/status

1 7923420 c2500-i-l.121-9.bin

[7923484 bytes used, 465124 available, 8388608 total]

8192K bytes of processor board System flash (Read ONLY)

The" 8388608" indicates the total flash size, but then what does " 8192k" indicate?

--------------------------------------

thanks a lot!

What does" 16384k/2048k" indicate?

This is your DRAM. Add both and your total DRAM should be around 18 Mb.

Thanks a lot Leolaohoo!

Now i understand memory in the output means dram and the total capacity of it is around 18MB( adding the 16384k/2048k0

But what does 16384 k/2048k indicate? My hunch is out of 18Mb, 2048k is available, the rest(16384k) is used.

It stands for:

Cisco processor (revision ) with

K/K bytes of memory.

The first value, Main Processor memory, is either:

•The amount of DRAM available for the processor, or

•The total amount of DRAM installed on the system.

The second value, Packet memory, is either:

•The total physical input/output (I/O) memory (or "Fast memory") installed on the router (Cisco 4000, 4500, 4700, and 7500 series), or

•The amount of "shared memory" used for packet buffering. In the shared memory scheme (Cisco 2500, 2600, 3600, and 7200 Series), a percentage of DRAM is used for packet buffering by the router's network interfaces.

Note The terms "I/O memory" or "iomem"; "shared memory"; "Fast memory" and "PCI memory" all refer to "Packet Memory". Packet memory is either separate physical RAM or shared DRAM.
