Very hard to tell.
If you purchase a Cisco router, you will most likely purchase an internal CSU/DSU.
However, if you were to purchase a non-Cisco router, you would purchase that vendor's internal offering or purchase a 3rd party external CSU/DSU.
Internal CSU/DSUs are ideal as you can manage/configure them directly from the router.

It could be an stand alone unit but if you buy a Cisco router, you often end up with the internal option and it looks like this:

Yes that is what it means. The internal CSU/DSU has the functionality built into the serial card. The CSU/DSU functions take place within the chassis and there is no external unit.

All current Cisco routers have a slot allocated for internal CSU/DSUs.
The last router NOT to have a slot allocated for internal CSU/DSU was the 2500 Series router which was a non-modular router.

Thanks a lot Edison!
What do we mean internally? Does it mean csu/dsu is not stand alone unit, rather implemented inside the chasis.

Thanks Edison!
Do the routers such as 2600 xm come with bay which can be removed to install this csu/dsu card or this card comes pre-installed in routers?
thanks a lot!
