I will assume you are using DNS to find the controllers?

Did you enter the A record in the DNS server to the management IP address of the controllers?

From your PC ping CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER and see if you get a response from the controller.

If you are using DNS and it responses back properly to your PC. Then check your vlan in which the AP sits to make sure its config properly.

If you choose not to use DNS you can use Option 43 for DHCP or manually enter in an IP address and controller IP address for each AP from the console port.

Hi,

Can you tell me what will be the best way to configure my WLAN setup.

Our set up is

1. 2 Cores switch 4506 with HSRP 52.234.57.3/25 (MNGMT VLAN 1)

2. 52.234.57.128/26 (For WLANusers VLAN 2)

3. C 3750 PWR in Access 52.234.58.0/24 USER1 (VLAN4)

4. C 3750 PWR in Access 52.234.59.0/24 USER2 (VLAN5)

Our DNS and DHCP server sits in HO with IP adrs 52.225.1.2 and 52.234.15.12.

I have did the basic WLC configuration.

and when i connected the LAP in my access i found the error of NOT able to resolve with DNS server. i.e CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.hyderabad2.XXXXX.com.

I'm getting this error when try both L2 and L3 setup.

Please advice how to overcome this.

Thanks in advance...

The management interface and the AP manager interface must both be tied to physical port one and the switch port they are attached to must be trunked so that traffic from other VLANs can get to them. Then, the APs must be able to get to the management interface. First, they must get an IP address either from a DHCP server or helper on that LAN segment and VLAN or statically assigned. Then they must be able to get to the management interface, by DHCP Option 43, DNS, or manually configured at the CLI for the AP. You could be blocking them with a ACL or firewall but I doubt it. Sounds like a routing issue.

Your management and ap manager needs to be on the same vlan identifier set to "0". Looks lik eyour ap manager is configured for vlan 2.

Make sure the trunk port that port 1 is connectred to is configured for native vlan

Scott,

Where do you see tagged for 2 on is AP Manager? I thought it was untagged. By the way, with the new CAPWAP code AP managers are a thing of the past. Finally!!!! Never mind. I see it. Yep. That would be his problem.

Dennis - Can you elaborate on the CAPWAP and AP Manager statement. Are you saying the AP manager interface is no longer necessary in 5.2?

When running full CAPWAP no AP Manager interfaces are needed. That will be fully supported in 6.0.

Hi,

Yeap i made all the changes as per the discussion.

My WLC is in VLAN1 52.234.57.7/25

Ap manger 52.234.57.8/25

I mannualy given the IP address for LAPs

52.234.57.132/26 for 4 nos wich will be in VLAN 2 with a default gateway 52.234.57.131.

Now im able to communicate from AP to my network.

But still im not able to connect my PC to network or i'm not ableto ping Ap from my PC

I have given a static Ip 52.234.57.145/26 in my pc

I have created an SSID and made my PC to sync with Aps .

the result is , the PC is not able to ping APs IP address ,WLC or any gateway.

Is there any setup to be done to make PC and APs to talk.

both AP and PC in VLAN2

Any suggesions

Pls help.

Regards,

Vj

Make sure that you allow static clients access to the WLAN. If you have dhcp required enabled you won't be able to get on the network.
