Hi,
Someone has told me the Cisco 1131 is deigned to be horizontal mounted i.e on a ceiling rather than a wall and the antennae are rotated round to deliver this...is this right or urban myth?
Thanks

Correct! The signal propagation is designed for it to hang from a drop-ceiling or to otherwise be mounted flat.
In practice, the APs are generally used in close-quarter office buildings, and it won't affect anything to hang them on your wall. Just don't hang them at table-level and you'll be fine.
