Verizon Gold CAR, QoS thru MPLS

We have a Verizon MPLS network that we purchased Gold CAR from Verizon.

Verizon says the Gold CAR package is for voice only (ef class)

My questions is regarding implementing QoS for voice, video and data priority classes.

How do I implement the policy?

Does the Gold CAR only allow me to prioritize the voice traffic?

Does it automatically prioritize voice without me applying a policy?

Can I prioritize the other classes only, or does my QoS poliy include everything?

Use modular quality of service command-line interface (MQC).

The bandwidth command defines a behavior, which is a minimum bandwidth guarantee.

Use priority command to give priority to a traffic class based on the amount of available bandwidth within a traffic policy. In addition, the priority command implements a maximum bandwidth guarantee.

Refer Verizon SLA/Solution on the GOLD CAR policy before the decision.

In addition to guru reply:

Priority commands alwasy use the policing not shaping. It means either the packets will forward or drop. It is always recommended not to use shaping in case of voice traffic.

Thanks for the reply.

According to Verizon they are only prioritizing the ef class.

If I create a QoS policy, that has

Voice Priority

Video Priority

Voice signaling priority

Data Priority

And Verizon is only prioritizing ef, then what is happening to the other classes I have created my QoS policy for?

If they get prioritized per my policy, why do I need the Gold CAR?

If they do not, then I dont need to even create a policy do I?

If they are priotizing EF traffic then you need to send the traffic by marking the EF bits else your traffic will be put in the class default and will become the least priotize.

Ok,

Say for example, with the above information (Verizon is only prioritizing ef class and I have T1 with 768 Gold CAR), I have this policy:

policy-map QoS

class VOICE

priority 512

set dscp ef

class DATA-Priority

set dscp af31

bandwidth 128

class class-default

set dscp default

fair-queue

random-detect

If Verizon is only prioritizing the ef class, is the rest of my policy doing anything?

What is happening to the data in these classes?

HI Wilson,

Please check whether your Service Provider is doing Egress QOS ?

-During the congestion conditions, the bandwidth class implements the min bandwidth guarantee

-Any excess traffic is sent in the link if the link is not congested (or) dropped if the same is congested

Hi Willson,

Who can determine if e.x 2.5 Mbps of Gold CAR is needed on the any one of the site Verizon MPLS circuit ?
if there is any intent to carry VoIP traffic between two sites and the remote sites on Verizon MPLS?
Will this Verizon circuit be carrying VoIP traffic to other Verizon sites?
