The Cisco Aironet 1140-series utilizes two 2x3:2 MIMO radios, with one operating in the 2.4GHz band, and the other in the 5GHz band. This means each radio has two transmit antennas, three receive antennas and it supports a maximum of two spatial streams. Similarly, a 3x3:2 radio would utilize three transmit antennas, three receive antennas and support a maximum of two spatial streams. In terms of performance, radio configurations of 2x3:2 and 3x3:2 will be equivalent as their maximum speeds are capped at 300Mbps given the number of spatial steams are identical.

but according to the data sheet, it says that this access point has ONE 2.4 Ghz antenna and ONE 5 Ghz antenna.

I think this is just a terminology issue my friend :) We have done much research on the 1140's due to the fact that we will likely end up deploying 600+ of these models in the next 2 years. The info I linked earlier regarding the Antennas is most correct. The Data sheet that you linked does not actually say ONE 2.4Ghz and ONE 5Ghz, it says;

"Integrated Antenna

• 2.4 GHz, Gain 4.0 dBi, horizontal beamwidth 360°

• 5 GHz, Gain 3 dBi, horizontal beamwidth 360°"

The word ONE is not mentioned here but , Cisco could have worded this much better for sure :)

The same doc also notes this;

"Draft 802.11n Version 2.0 (and Related) Capabilities

• 2x3 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) with two spatial streams"

True. I guess I went over board with the assumption.

Now, tell me something , 1142 and 1252 have same capabilites when 1252 is used with both antennas. (ofcourse in 1252 you can use the antenna of your choice).

Is it only then that the 1252 needs other powering options (PoE+) or enhanced POE for powering right ?

1. You can use AIR-ANT24120 or you can use 3rd party products. If you do use 3rd party kit, Cisco has the right to waive the warranty or TAC/RMA benefits if Cisco deems that the problem or damage was caused by the 3rd party kits.

2. You can use AIR-ANT1728.
