Inbound traffic much slower that outbound traffic

Where would be a good place to start looking if your dowmload speed seemed to be much slower than upload speeds. Say you're organization is running BGP between two ISP's. One of the ISP's you have a much bigger pipe to whom you favor by prepending your AS toward the much slower ISP to influence with inbound & hopefully outbound traffic, outbound traffic speeds seem just fine. When you run a speed test both outbound and inbound traffic utilize the much faster ISP connection, but the download speed is way lower than the upload speed. You have investigated what you know, where would be some good places to look for the issues? (see attachment)

If I'm reading your posted attachment correctly, it shows download faster than upload?

If download is truly typically slower than upload, and if the link offers symmetric bandwidth, you might first investigate average in/out utilization. Unless you're hosting servers on the Internet, often more data is pulled down then sent. If true for you, there just might be less available bandwidth for downloads due to average utilization.

No, it's actually the opposite. The outbound is much faster than the inbound. Look at the attachment and you will see.

Upload 1223 Kbps

You didn't make clear where the test client was, but assuming it was on your internal network hitting a public Internet speed test server, download should be inbound and upload should be outbound. Perhaps you could further clarify and also explain your topology.

Hi Joseph,

Actually if you look very closely you will see that the upload is 11223kbps. Yes the client test is from inside the network. and hitting a public speed test server.
