Understanding ME3400 / problem as normal switch

Hello everyone,

I would like to implement the following scenario: a customer gets an me3400-2cs as cpe and connects to an me3400me-12s (provider) using 2 links (one copper one fiber). The links will be configured with flexlink to fall back to the copper port when the fiber port goes down. The me3400-12cs will be connected directly using fiber to the gateway (7206VXR).

My problem: if I leave the ME3400-12cs unconfigured , just the IP address and put the interfaces "up", the customer port does not see the gateway.

I noticed that if I put the interfaces into nni mode, all works. But my firmware has the restriction that onel 4 ports can be NNI on the me3400-12cs, and I do not want to waste 8 Ports...

How can I have the ME3400's behave like a "normal" switch ?

TIA

Peter

From my experience with these switches, you cant.

Any UNI port should be able to talk to a NNI port as can an ENI.

As you have stated, NNI can talk to NNI

If you need 2 uni ports to communicate, you need to use Private VLANS :-s.

Also check which sdm profile you are using with the show sdm prefer command as you will want to set it to either layer 2 or default (layer 3) depending on your needs. this will hit L3 performance if you are set to layer 2 :-

Me3400(config)#sdm prefer ?

default Default bias

layer-2 No routing
