WAAS discover process

Folks,

After the discovery process in Cisco WAAS between two adjacent WAE's, I am confussed about one thing.

The documentation says that there are 3 segments after the intial syn-syn ack, and ack. One segment from the client to the first wae, the second from the wae1 to wae2 and the third from wae2 to the server.

My question is that does the wae terminate the tcp connections and proxy them again between them or they simple enhance the connections. on other words, the connections are between the client and the server, the wae's in the middle simply enhance the connections or they terminate the connections and retransmit connections optimzed on behalf of the client?

I will surely rate this post!

Thanks,

Parwal

Parwal,

The WAE has to intercept the tcp connections, but it does so transparently. It preserves the layer 3 and 4 packet headers. So it will not break QoS, NBAR, netflow, ACLs, etc.

So as far as the client and the server know, nothing is happening.

Hope that makes sense.

Kelly
