RIP error

Hi,

I am trying to configure RIP V2 between 2 Routers. It is working fine.

But in debug message iam getting the error

" RIP: ignored v2 packet from 192.168.2.1 (sourced from one of our address)"

The Router configuration is below:

interface eth 1/0

ip add 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0

interface eth 1/1

ip add 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0

router rip

net 0.0.0.0

version 2

What is this message indicate? Can anybody give me a clue to know about this

This message purpose is to indicate that one of our own updates has been sent back to us somehow. You would normally see that on the loopback interface if you do not run it as passive. How do you interconnect these two routers?

Thanks for your update.

I interconnect these routers using fastethernet.

It seems you are refering about split horizon. I believe that split horizon is enabled in distance vector protocols like RIP. I am correct?

Then why do this message appearing?

R.B.Kumar,

I am not referring to split horizon. I think the other poster did. This is not related to split horizon (or the lack of) anyway as we are receiving the RIP update that we formatted ourselves with our own source address. Split horizon would prevent the neighbor from advertising to us the update it has received from us on the same interface.

Do you have a switch between the two routers of just a back to back cable? What is the router at the other end? Could you please provide the full configuration for both routers.

Just to confirm whether there is a loop on the FastE interface, could you please post a "sh cdp nei ".

This is due to split horizon.

- Split horizon is a method of preventing a routing loop in a network. The basic principle is simple: Information about the routing for a particular packet is never sent back in the direction from which it was received.

hai,

i think this is not by splithorizon. you just check the ip add of your neighbour.if the neighbour add is in a different net it will happen.

Hello R.B. Kumar,

if there is a lan switch in the middle and if you put both FE on two ports on the same vlan, they can listen to each other hellos and you get this kind of message

1 is spilithorizon

anoter is thay might have connected in the same lan

and it is sourcifn from the lan
