7961G FW Upgrade Issue

Two 7961G Phones are stuck and neither upgrading nor booting up. Following message is logged on the RS232 Console:

#######################################

CNU 3.1(1.15); Mar 21 2006 21:51:25

Copyright (c) 2001-2005 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved.

SYSMSG: Last reboot cause -> Power Loss

-->init: ver 3.7(1.4)

-->init: Starting syslogd...

-->syslogd: [2] ver 3.0 (2.0)

-->syslogd: waiting for filesystem...

#######################################

Not even the Factory Reset Sequence ( 1234567890*# ) is being accepted any longer.

What may be the reason and are these phones now dead or is there a means to get them working again ?

Would appreciate assistance on this!

Thanks!

Hi,

Try to do a factory reset in the IP Phone:

Step 1 Power cycle the phone.

The phone begins its power up cycle.

Step 2 While the phone is powering up (with a power brick) , and before

the Speaker button flashes on and off, press and hold #.

Continue to hold # until each line button flashes on and off in sequence

in yellow.

Step 3 Release # and press 123456789*0#.

You can press a key twice in a row, but if you press the keys out of

sequence, the factory reset will not take place.

After you press these keys, the line buttons on the phone flash red and

the phone goes through the factory reset process.

Do not power down the phone until it completes the factory reset process

and the main screen appears.

If that doesnt work, an option on step 3. is to use the sequence: 3491672850*# and follow next same steps

Hi gogasca,

thanks for your suggestion.

I tried the approach as you have suggested ( using a power brick ) but unfortunately the phone doesn't get to the status of "line button flashing on and off in sequence".

When powering up following happens:

- all lights flash

- headset button flashes

- mute button flashes

- speaker button flashes and remains on

- a couple seconds later the message as outlined in my initial message appears on the console

I have also tried the secondary sequence without any success ( actually I don't even think that the sequence is accepted, as the line button flashing yellow in sequence does not occur ).

Anything more one could do ?

Thanks!!

Regards
