We are using this AP, AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9 and WLCs at v5.2.157.0. We use WPA2 w/AES and TKIP. We never see more than a 54 Mbps link. Even within a few feet of the AP. We had an Aruba controller and the same clients reported 270 Mbps. Is there an issue with this system not doing 802.11n speeds?

Do you have 802.11n enabled? Click on the Wireless tab in the GUI, then use the links on the left to navigate to the 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/n network pages. Make sure the 802.11n option is checked on these pages.

Yes that option is checked. I am just noticing that the highest stated speed that can be configured as "supported" is 144.

Seeing from another post that there is a step by step How-to. One of the steps says that 802.11a must be disabled first. Also not sure if this can be done exclusively by the web interface. This doc trys to show both ways.

I don't believe Cisco supports channel-bonding in the 2.4GHz space, so that might be why the maximum speed is 144Mbps rather than 300Mbps. Does the 5GHz list 300Mbps as a possible speed?
Did the document work for you, or are you still stuck with slow speeds?

Hi,
801.11n supports only AES. Also make sure that WMM for target WLAN is set at least to "optional".
Cheers

I got this working, the network utility shows 270 and the WL:C shows me as an "N" connection. WMM is on default of "allowed". My MAC laptop doesn't let me select a/b/g so this SSID is for A network only. This SSID is WPA2, AES only.
config 802.11a disable
config 802.11a 11nsupport enable
config 802.11a 11nSupport a-mpdu tx priority all enable (We are not using QoS)
config 802.11a 11nSupport mcs tx 15 enable
save config
config 802.11a enable
save config
It seemed that I had to reboot the WLCs to get N to work.
